A new full length trailer for “Sinners” has arrived as Ryan Coogler crosses numerous genres including a vampire film with his most personal work to date...
“You keep dancing with the devil, one day he’s gonna follow you home.”
That’s the teaser at the heart of the new trailer for “Sinners” — the latest film from Academy Award nominated director Ryan Coogler, who also wrote the script for the genre-bending film that is one part drama, another part musical and yes, this is also a horror movie.
From the start, “Sinners” has been billed as a vampire film but Coogler stopped short from actually showing the bloodsuckers in his first teaser trailer but that all changed with the new footage released on Tuesday. Coogler also explained how “Sinners” is actually his most personal work to date after he received rave reviews for past project such as “Black Panther” and “Creed.”
“It’s a world that my grandparents were a part of,” Coogler said about the time period and setting for “Sinners.” “A time that is overlooked in American history.
“I’m blessed to have found this medium that I can work out deep philosophical and existential questions that I may be struggling with while contributing to an art form that means so much to my family. Each film brings me closer to understanding myself and the world around me.”
The film stars frequent collaborator Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as twin brothers at the heart of the story. Here’s the full synopsis for “Sinners.”
“Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.”
“Sinners” also stars Hailee Steinfeld (“Bumblebee,” “True Grit”), Jack O’Connell (“Ferrari”), Wunmi
Mosaku (“Passenger”), Jayme Lawson (“The Woman King”), Omar Benson Miller (“True
Lies”), and Delroy Lindo (“Da 5 Bloods”).
