In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to load up our bows and arrows and remember that the end is really nigh as we review the 2025 sequel “28 Years Later”…

When director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland teamed up for “28 Days Later” back in 2002, they had no idea that what they created would become a cultural phenomenon and one of the most popular horror films of the past 25 years.

The two remained close and teamed up again for 2007’s sci-fi horror film “Sunshine,” which prevented them from working on the sequel to the original movie but their partnership dissolved soon after over a major disagreement on the ending for their latest collaboration.

Both went onto find huge success including Boyle winning an Oscar for his movie “Slumdog Millionaire.” But years later, Garland had an idea for another movie set in the same universe as “28 Days Later” so he reconnected with Boyle and they decided to team up again on a new film.

There were plenty of changes thoughout with Garland’s original treatment serving as more of a direct sequel to the original but on a much grander scale. Boyle had other ideas so they worked together to craft a story that eventually spawned plans for an entire trilogy.

The newest film takes place 28 years after the rage virus ravaged England but survivors have managed to create a home on an isolated island away from the infected. But a father and son decide to take a trip back to the mainland and that journey reveals the true horrors this world possesses…
