When the year 2000 was approaching, there was an overwhelming sense of dread that computers across the globe would shut down due to an error inputting the year.
The phenomenon was called Y2K but when the New Year came and went, the pending doom soon faded when absolutely nothing happened.
A young Kyle Mooney remembered the letdown over such a bizarre fascination that seemingly swept up the entire world and he was consumed by the thought about what would have unfolded if the worst case scenario actually happened?
That led to Mooney teaming with longtime friend Evan Winter to write a script that centered around the final day leading to the year 2000 when everyone’s most terrifying fears were realized.
The story centered around a pair of friends who generally didn’t fit in with anyone at their high school but they were still dealing with the same fears about the future as everyone else.
When they decide to attend a New Year’s Eve party along with their classmates in hopes to close out the 90s with a kiss, they are instead met with a machine uprising and a computer meltdown that threatens to wipe out all of humanity…
