With his brother John laid up from a back injury, Jim Thomas pitched to his sibling the idea of writing a script together based on a concept he had based on a very simple concept: “What would it be like to be hunted by a dilettante hunter from another planet the way we hunt big game in Africa?”
Originally titled “Hunter,” the Thomas brothers wrote the script over a period of three months but they weren’t big time screenwriters with representation or an agent.
So they just started sending the script out to anybody and everybody but they were rejected at every turn until to screenplay eventually landed in the hands of a reader at FOX and through a change of leadership at the company, one of the new executives got his start working with famed director Roger Corman and the story was right up his alley.
Another producer got involved after working on an action film called “Commando” and the script ended up reaching Arnold Schwarzenegger, who loved the story and immediately signed on to star in the project.
Set in the jungles of Central America, a group of highly trained special ops soldiers are sent on a rescue mission but after finding the skinned bodies of some fellow soldiers at a crash site, the team realizes that they are the ones now being hunted for sport….
