Writer and director Ti West penned a script for a film called “X” that was eventually given the greenlight to go into production by indie studio A24.
West and his cast, which included Mia Goth, Brittany Snow, Jenna Ortega and Scott Mescudi, traveled all the way to New Zealand to film the old school slasher film that actually takes place in 1979.
Production happened during the global pandemic and West realized the unique situation he was in filming his movie while the rest of the world remained in lockdown.
That’s where he got the idea to film two movies back-to-back but with most of the cast not surviving “X,” he got the idea that perhaps a prequel was a better way to go. That’s where “Pearl” was born as West and Goth stayed together to film an origin story behind the geriatric serial killer from “X.”
But two parts of the story just didn’t seem enough so West decided he wanted to conclude his series with a third and final film that would document what happened to Goth’s character Maxine Minx after she survived the Texas Porn Star Massacre and eventually moved to Hollywood to finally seek out the life that she deserved in front of the camera and everybody would know her name…
