Maika Monroe is set to take on the lead role in an updated version of “Hand That Rocks the Cradle” after the original film was released back in 1992…
Fresh off the success of “Longlegs,” Maika Monroe has found another starring vehicle after taking on the lead role in the upcoming “Hand that Rocks the Cradle” reboot set up at 20th Century.
Based on the original 1992 film of the same name, Monroe will star in the feature with a script from Micah Bloomberg and Michelle Garza Cervera set to direct after she received rave reviews for her horror film “Huesera: The Bone Woman.”
The original film centered around a woman played by Annabella Sciorra, who is pregnant and sexually molested by her obstetrician, Dr. Mott. After returning home and telling her husband what happens, he encourages her to turn the doctor over to the authorities and soon several more women come forward with similar accusations. As the investigation draws near an arrest, Dr. Mott decides to commit suicide rather than face the charges. Soon after his pregnant wife played by Rebecca De Mornay finds out that all of the family’s assets have been frozen due to pending lawsuits and her husband’s life insurance is voided because he committed suicide. She ends up going into premature labor and losing her child along with the ability to get pregnant again due to complications.
So Mrs. Mott sets out to get revenge after identifying the first woman to turn in her husband and she ends up playing nanny to the woman’s family while secretly plotting against them.
Monroe is expected to play the role originated by De Mornay while the other roles have not been cast yet.
Of course, Monroe has become a very hot commodity lately after starring in “Longlegs” alongside NIcolas Cage, which earned over $100 million at the box office this summer. In addition to her role in the updated “Hand That Rocks the Cradle,” Monroe is also reprising her role in “They Follow” — a direct sequel to “It Follows,” which served as her breakout role back in 2014.
