The first full trailer for “The Last of Us” season 2 has arrived with a much deeper look at what’s happening to Joel and Ellie after they escaped a Firefly compound where scientists planned on killing Ellie in hopes of finding a cure to stop the deadly Cordyceps infection from spreading further.
The new season picks up five years after the events in season 1 and the new trailer reveals a first look at several characters joining the show, which is set to debut on HBO sometime in 2025.
Here’s the official synopsis from HBO:
“After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
“The Last of Us” season 2 returning cast includes Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria plus new cast members including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Plus Catherine O’Hara also guest stars in a mystery role that hasn’t been revealed — although she does appear in the trailer.
And for those curious — the song playing in the trailer is “Future Days” by Pearl Jam.
