The long talked about “Friday the 13th’ prequel series that seemed dead has been resurrected with a new showrunner taking over….
If there’s one thing you should know about a horror franchise like “Friday the 13th,” it’s that you can’t kill what refuses to die.
Much like Jason Voorhees refuses to stay dead and buried, the “Friday the 13th” prequel series titled “Crystal Lake” headed to Peacock has been resurrected with a new showrunner.
Brad Caleb Kane — who is also co-showrunner on the upcoming Max series “IT: Welcome to Derry” as well as previously working on “Warrior,” “Black Sails” and “Tokyo Vice” — has taken over for showrunner after Bryan Fuller split with the show over creative differences.
“From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask,” Kane said in a statement. “Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday The 13th.
“I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”
Plot details around “Crystal Lake” remain a mystery, although it’s not expected that Jason Voorhees is actually going to make an appearance considering this is set up as a prequel.
The “Friday the 13th” spinoff was actually ordered to series all the way back in 2022 but it’s taken a long time to develop with indie darling studio A24 and Peacock serving as producers on the show.
Now with Kane on board, work can begin again with hopes that “Crystal Lake” will arrives for viewers sooner rather than later! This will serve as the first new “Friday the 13th” project since the remake dropped back in 2009.
