Courteney Cox remains in talks about potentially appearing in “Scream VII” but she says nothing has been made official at this time…
Will Gale Weathers return for “Scream VII”?
When new plans for a seventh film in the “Scream” franchise were first announced with original screenwriter Kevin Williamson returning to direct the latest sequel and Neve Campbell set to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, it almost seemed like a foregone conclusion that Courteney Cox would come back as well.
Cox is currently the only legacy cast member to appear in every “Scream” film after Campbell dropped out of “Scream VI” due to a salary dispute with the studio.
Just after plans for “Scream VII” were announced, Cox was reportedly in talks to return to the horror franchise but with filming expected to begin in 2025, the former “Friends” star says she still hasn’t officially joined the cast for the next sequel.
“I’m not officially signed on,” Cox told Variety. “I’m not [signed on], but there will be a ‘Scream VII.”
While Cox said she’s “excited’ that Williamson is returning to the franchise he launched after writing the screenplay for the original film, which was then directed by legendary horror master Wes Craven, she still doesn’t know if she’s going to appear in the film.
“You can’t get better than that choice,” Cox said about Williamson returning for ‘Scream VI’. “It’s going to be fun. They’re rewriting all the time. It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on.”
As of right now, Campbell is the only cast member who has been confirmed to return for “Scream VII” so it’s expected that more announcements will come soon, especially if production is going to kick off early next year.
Will Cox eventually reach a deal to return as Gale Weathers in “Scream VII”? Only time will tell.
