“Chucky” won’t return to kill again … at least not on television.
The series based on the “Child’s Play” movies from creator Don Mancini has been cancelled after three seasons on Syfy and the USA Network. There were reportedly talks about potentially bringing back the show for a shortened fourth and final season or even a film to potentially wrap up the story but ultimately no deal was struck and the show was scrapped.
“I’m heartbroken over the news that ‘Chucky’ won’t be coming back for a fourth season, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have,” Mancini said in a statement. “I’d like to thank UCP/SYFY/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our awesome cast and Toronto-based crew (the best in the business), and finally, to our amazing fans, a big bloody hug.
“Your incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky’s cold heart. Chucky will return! He ALWAYS come back.”
The “Chucky” series continued the long running saga from the “Child’s Play” films with the show picking up after the events of “Cult of Chucky” and even featured appearances from some of the cast in those original films including Alex Vincent, Fiona Dourif and Jennifer Tilly.
The cast of “Chucky” also included Devon Sawa, Zackary Arthur, Björgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Christine Elise and Lachlan Watson.
“Chucky” was a very well received show with fans and critics with the series with NBCUniversal stating that the first half of the recently released third installment most-watched season of any USA/Syfy series since 2021 in the adults 18-49 demo.
Ultimately that didn’t save “Chucky” from cancellation with the NBCUniversal pulling the plug on the horror series on Friday.
