Willem Dafoe is ready to work with Robert Eggers again with the Oscar nominated actor in talks to join the new horror film “Werwulf”…
When Robert Eggers is directing a new movie, it’s safe to assume Willem Dafoe isn’t far behind.
With the prolific writer and director preparing to shoot his new film “Werwulf” — with Aaron-Taylor Johnson set to star and Lily Rose Depp expected to join him — Dafoe is ready to make it a full blown “Nosferatu” reunion with the Oscar nominated actor in talks for a major role in the movie.
“Werwulf” already has a release date set for Christmas Day, 2026 with Eggers directing from a script he co-wrote with Sjón, who he previously worked with on “The Northman.”
While details around the movie are scarce, Eggers is expected to keep to his gothic roots with “Werwulf” taking place around the 13th century and use dialogue true to that time period including “translations and annotations for those uninitiated in Old English.” The film is expected to center around the mythological creature but not much is known beyond that.
As far as Dafoe’s involvement goes, it shouldn’t come as any surprise given his history with Eggers.
Dafoe previously starred alongside Robert Pattinson in “The Lighthouse” and then also made appearances in “The Northman” and “Nosferatu.” He’s also expected to take on the lead role in Eggers’ adaptation of the Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol.”
That project is expected to get into production after Eggers wraps up “Werwulf.”
Production on “Werwulf” is expected to begin later this year with more casting announcements expected in the coming months.
