The series was delayed by the actor’s and writer’s strikes but the “Yellowjackets” got back into production once new deals were struck. The new season welcomes a couple of new recurring cast members including Oscar winner Hillary Swank as well as Joel McHale playing new characters in the season.
When “Yellowjackets” season 2 ended, the two timelines on the show — one taking place after the girls’ soccer team crash landed in the wilderness where they’re forced to survive until finally being rescued and the second in present day as the survivors continue to deal with the trauma endured from the horrific plane crash — both came to dramatic conclusions.
In the past, Javi ended up dead and the survivors decide his sacrifice is their latest means for survival so they prepare to eat him while also crowning a new Antler Queen in Natalie. Coach Ben is horrified at the continued cannibalism that’s fueling the survivors so he sets out on his own, seeking shelter away from the girls. But everyone’s world is shattered when the girls wake up and find the cabin on fire and the doors locked to prevent them from escaping. They eventually get out alive but now they are lost in the wilderness with no food and no shelter.
In the present day, Lottie convinces the other survivors that “It” — the mystical force that plagued them years earlier — is back and demands a sacrifice. The rest of the girls essentially attempt to appease Lottie’s madness and play along with Shauna eventually being selected as the sacrifice. She darts off into the woods but when Lottie catches up to her ready to kill, Shauna’s daughter Callie shoots her in the shoulder to protect her mother. Back at the campsite, Lisa arrives with a gun pointed at all the survivors, distraught by what she’s seen and heard since joining the commune and when Misty senses a threat, she runs at the girl with a syringe filled with poison but Natalie steps in the way to save her. Natalie is injected and the deadly poison courses through her veins and Natalie perishes at the hands of her own friends.
So how will “Yellowjackets” season 3 pick up the story?
We’ll have to wait until February 14 to find out!
