The first full trailer for “The Last of Us” season 2 has arrived as Joel and Ellie’s relationship is fractured after a terrible secret is revealed…
“You swore.”
Those are the final words from Ellie to Joel in the new trailer for “The Last of Us” season 2, which debuts on HBO on April 13 at 9 p.m. ET
The new season picks up five years after the events in “The Last of Us” season 1, which saw Joel rescue Ellie from the Fireflies after he learned that the rebel group intended to kill her in order to try and find the cure to the Cordyceps infection that completely changed the world forever. Ellie’s immunity was supposed to save the world but Joel didn’t learn until delivering Ellie to her that the procedure to harvest the potential cure would end her life.
After losing his own daughter at the start of the fungal-apocalypse, Joel had no intention of letting Ellie go so he wiped out the entire Firefly installment including the doctors preparing to operate on Ellie. After escaping, Joel lied to Ellie and told her they got out without anybody getting hurt but it’s pretty clear that she learns the truth.
