The final season of “Stranger Things” is halfway through production and a new behind the scenes video gives us a first glimpse of what’s to come….
There’s still no telling when the final season of “Stranger Things” will actually debut on Netflix but production on the last episodes is halfway completed.
A new behind-the-scenes video released by Netflix on Monday shows off the first footage from the final season in a featurette that reveals many of the returning characters as well as new cast members that are joining the show. Among the new names set to appear in “Stranger Things” season 5 include — Nell Fisher (“Evil Dead Rise”), Alex Breaux (“Waco: The Aftermath”) and newcomer Jake Connelly.
There’s no word yet on the characters the new actors joining the show are playing just yet.
Among the flashes we get throughout the two minute video, we see the original core fore with Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Will reunited. We also get a brief look at Vecna still very much alive and well in the Upside Down as well as a quick shot of Eleven doing battle there against an unseen force.
“Season 4 was big. Season 5 definitely feels bigger,” Jamie Campbell Bower, who portrays Vecna, said during the video.
Details about the final season have been scarce outside of a few bits of information previously unveiled including plans for a 8 episodes that series star Maya Hawke teased as feeling like “eight movies,” which might explain why production is expected to take all of 2024.
Due to the time spent filming the fifth and final season, “Stranger Things” isn’t expected to return until sometime deep into 2025 but the cast expects fans will be very pleased once they see those last episodes.
“Like every season, you never know what to expect. 100 percent, the wait will be worth it,” Lucas’ portrayer Caleb McLaughlin said in the video.
When “Stranger Things” season 4 ended, Eleven was able to vanquish Vecna but the creature formerly known as Henry Creel still survived and the Upside Down started to break through into our world with Hawkins, Indiana at the epicenter of the invasion. Meanwhile, the season long effort to save Max from falling into Vecna prevented her from dying but not before her bones were all snapped and she was left comatose with Lucas there hoping she’ll eventually wake up.
“Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer have said a big part of the final season centers around reuniting the cast together again back in Hawkins after they were split apart and spread across the entire globe for almost all of the fourth season.
Production on “Stranger Things” is primarily happening in Atlanta with plans for shooting to continue through the end of the year.
“This is the season fans have been waiting for and I hope you’re as excited as we are to get to tell the final chapter in this story,” the Duffer brothers said during the video.
With “Stranger Things” season 5 not expected to debut until sometime in 2025, expect more of these teasers to build up the anticipation until the final episodes finally drop on Netflix next year.
