The first look at “Nosferatu” has arrived with a teaser trailer showing footage from director Robert Eggers’ new terrifying gothic remake….
“We are here encountering the vampire …. Nosferatu”
Those chilling words from Willem Dafoe close the first look at Robert Eggers’ upcoming remake for “Nosferatu,” which is of course based loosely upon Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the 1922 film of the same name.
Here’s the official synopsis for “Nosferatu” from Focus Features:
“Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”
The muse in this story is played by Lily Rose-Depp and she’s joined in the cast by Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe and Bill Skarsgard playing Count Orlock aka Nosferatu.
We actually don’t get to see a fully realized Count Orlock in the trailer, which might be the best idea yet because the tease for that reveal is undoubtedly one of the most important aspects of the film. Eggers previously said that Skarsgard effectively disappeared into the role — a similar comment made about silent actor Max Schreck when he portrayed the character in the original film as well.
“I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just … he’s not there,” Eggers told Empire when the first image from the film was released.
The film doesn’t open until December 25 but it’s already one of the most anticipated movies for the remainder of 2024. Eggers has gained a reputation for making intense, incredible films and he hasn’t missed yet after making “The Witch,” “The Lighthouse” and “The Northman.”
For now, take a look at the new trailer for “Nosferatu” and get ready for the film’s release on Christmas Day.
