If “The Conjuring Last Rites” really is the final film in the franchise, then the latest sequel is going out with a bang.
The fourth film in the long running horror series — that has also spanned five spinoff films set in the same universe — earned a whopping $194 million globally during its opening weekend. “The Conjuring: Last Rites” took home $84 million domestically with another $110 million earned on the international market, which helped the movie set a new record after “IT: Chapter One” previously held that mark with $190 million during its opening weekend.
In the U.S., “The Conjuring: Last Rites” sits third all time for an opening weekend only behind “IT: Chapter One” and “IT: Chapter Two” after those films earned $123 million and $91 million respectively. But adding in the global box office with $110 million setting a new record there as well helped push the latest film in “The Conjuring” franchise to No. 1 all time for an opening weekend.
It’s a huge achievement for the film starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as famed demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren after the movie was teased as the final movie in the series. The latest film directed by franchise veteran Michael Chaves centers around the Warrens investigating a haunting in Pennsylvania involving the Smurl family after they are tormented by an evil spirit terrorizing them with no end in sight.
With a budget at $55 million, “The Conjuring: Last Rites” is already a huge hit for Warner Bros. without even looking past the opening weekend. Overall, “The Conjuring” films, which also includes three “Annabelle” movies and a pair of films centered around “The Nun,” have earned over $2.3 billion at the box office.
This is also the latest win for Warner Bros. when it comes to horror films after the studio already found huge success in 2025 with Ryan Coogler’s film “Sinners” and Zach Cregger’s sophomore effort “Weapons,” which have both earned huge returns at the box office.
