More news for “Scream 7” as Jasmin Savoy Brown is returning to the series while Joel McHale joins the sequel in a surprising role…
The cast for “Scream 7” continues to grow with one person returning and another stepping into a surprising role in the latest sequel.
First things first — Jasmin Savoy Brown is back for the new “Scream” film as she reprises her role as Mindy Meeks-Martin after playing the role in both “Scream V” and “Scream VI.” She’s joining her onscreen brother played by Mason Gooding, who was previously confirmed to return as Chad Meeks-Martin for the new film.
There had been speculation that perhaps Brown wouldn’t return after co-star Melissa Barrera was dropped from plans for “Scream 7” over posts she made on social media regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Shortly after Barrera exited the sequel, Jenna Ortega, who played her onscreen sister in the horror franchise, also dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts with her role in the hit Netflix series “Wednesday.”
In the end, Brown found her way back for “Scream 7” and she joins Gooding in the latest sequel currently in production in Atlanta.
The second piece of casting news is that Joel McHale has joined “Scream 7” and he’ll be playing Mark Evans — who is Sidney Prescott’s husband. McHale is best known for his roles in TV series such as “Community” as well as a memorable guest appearance on the Emmy winning show “The Bear.”
That that’s probably surprising to most fans after “Scream V” filmmakers previously teased that Sidney’s reference to her husband Mark in that film was directly related to Mark Kincaid — a character played by Patrick Dempsey in “Scream 3.” There were even talks that Dempsey was going to reprise his role after playing a LAPD detective in the third sequel in the franchise but obviously that never happened.
Instead, McHale is now set to play Sidney’s husband under a completely different name and he’s already filming scenes in the sequel in production.
Brown and McHale join a cast that includes Neve Campbell reprising her role as Sidney Prescott in the sequel along with Courteney Cox, who is back as Gale Weathers for “Scream 7.” As previously noted, Gooding is back at Chad Meeks-Martin while new cast members including Isabel May, who is set to play Sidney’s daughter in the horror sequel, and she’s joined by Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner and Anna Camp.
“Scream 7” is being directed by original “Scream” screenwriter Kevin Williamson with a script from Guy Busick, who also penned both “Scream V” and “Scream VI.”
“Scream 7” is set for release into theaters on February 27, 2026.
