Growing up as the daughter of famed filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, Ishana Night Shyamalan always had a feeling she would get into the family business.
After attending NYU, Ishana started working alongside her father on some of his projects including serving as a second unit director on his films “Old” and “Knock at the Cabin.” She also got her first taste of writing, directing and producing while working with her father on the Apple TV series “Servant.”
So when it finally came time for her to crossover into directing feature film, Ishana had her father’s support but she wanted to tackle this project solo. She ultimately decided to adapt a book from author A.M. Shine about a group of strangers that end up lost in the middle of some spooky woods in Ireland and they become trapped in a building where strange, humanoid like creatures come out at night and watch them through a window.
Any attempt at escaping can turn deadly, especially if anyone is crazy enough to try to sneak out once the sun has set. Ishana felt a certain kinship to the lead character named Mina and she got New Line Cinema to produce her project, which actually filmed in Ireland where the movie takes place.
There, she trapped her four survivors attempting to make it through another night with the watchers watching their every move….
