Years after the tragic death of Brandon Lee on the set of “The Crow,” a remake of the cult classic film started getting pitched around Hollywood beginning with “Blade” director Stephen Norrington announcing plans to write and direct a “reinvention” of the franchise with a more realistic twist on the supernatural story.
The film languished in development hell and eventually bounced around various producers and directors over more than the next decade with everybody from Mark Wahlberg to Bradley Cooper to Tom Hiddleston to Jack Huston and all the way to Jason Momoa rumored to take on the role of Eric Draven in the remake.
It wasn’t until 2022 that Rupert Sanders was hired to adapt the material into a new film and “IT” star Bill Skarsgard was cast in the lead role with musician FKA Twigs playing Shelly Webster, the doomed lover who sets Eric out on a mission of revenge.
When filming was completed, Sanders said he hoped to create a modern take on a gothic classic with his version of the story that fleshed out more of Eric and Shelly’s romance and a different twist on the villain set out to kill them….
