Writer and director Parker Finn was inspired by his own short film called “Laura Hasn’t Slept” when he penned the script for his feature length debut titled “Smile.”
Originally intended as a streaming only project for Paramount+, the studio ultimately decided to release the film into theaters and the movie became a smash hit earning over $217 million at the box office.
Finn eventually signed a first-look deal with Paramount and it wasn’t long before news broke that he was developing a sequel that would continue to explore the demonic entity that attaches itself to somebody and then spends the next seven days tormenting them before eventually ending their lives.
Finn said he purposefully made some parts of his original story ambiguous for the sole purpose of developing sequels in the future.
In the continuation of the first film, a pop star witnesses the gruesome death of her drug dealer and that digs up plenty of skeletons from her past as she attempts to keep her sobriety intact while the whole world just keeps grinning at her….
