“Longlegs” lives again with Osgood Perkins and Nicolas Cage returning to make another horror film set in the same universe …

Mommy! Daddy! There’s a new “Longlegs” movie on the way.
Osgood Perkins and Nicolas Cage are teaming up again to make a new “Longlegs” film after their original collaboration became a smash hit at theaters earning more than $128 million at the box office on just a $10 million budget.
Now Perkins is returning to write and direct a new “Longlegs” film with Cage reprising his role as the titular serial killer while also producing the movie. While the first film was distributed by indie studio Neon, the new “Longlegs” film is being produced and distributed by Paramount Skydance.
While details about the plot remain a mystery, the new film is not expected to serve as a direct sequel to the original movie but instead the film is ““set in the ‘Longlegs’ universe.”
In the original film, Maika Monroe plays an FBI detective with powers of clairvoyance who is drawn into an investigation that has gone on for several years about a number of disturbing murder-suicides linked to an infamous serial killer only known as Longlegs.
While the original movie was promoted as a spiritual sequel to “Silence of the Lambs,” “Longlegs” dealt with some more supernatural elements as well as Satanic worship, possession and several other horrific plot details that made the movie anything but a traditional cat-and-mouse serial killer story.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Neon bowed out of producing the new “Longlegs” film after the planned budget for the film exceeded what the studio wanted to spend so now Paramount Skydance is footing the bill with hopes that the new movie can find the same kind of success as the original.
Since he became a household name in horror through “Longlegs,” Perkins has gone onto direct several more films including “The Monkey” and his most recent effort titled “Keeper.” His next film is titled “The Young People” starring Nicole Kidman, Lola Tung and Nico Parker.
There’s no word when “Longlegs” might kick off production but with the studio in place and Cage returning to star, it probably won’t take long for this film to get underway.
