Dexter Morgan will rise again with Michael C. Hall once again returning to reprise the character in “Dexter: Resurrection” at Showtime…
You can’t keep a good serial killer down.
On the heels of “Dexter: New Blood” that ran for 10 episodes on Showtime starting back in November 2021, another new series featuring Dexter Morgan is happening soon.
During an appearance at San Diego Comic Con on Friday, Michael C. Hall announced that he would not only be providing the voiceovers for the upcoming prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” — where Patrick Gibson plays a younger version of the character growing up in the 1990s — but he’s also returning as the famed serial killer in a new series called “Dexter: Resurrection” that’s expected to debut in summer 2025.
Of course, Hall originally portrayed Dexter for eight seasons of the series that ended back in 2013. The series finale wasn’t exactly a beloved episode of television so a new creative team headed up by original “Dexter” creator Clyde Phillips brought the character back for the 10 episode run that ended in 2022.
Now the premies for the new series wasn’t revealed but it’s going to be interesting how this all comes together after “Dexter: New Blood” ended with Dexter Morgan’s estranged son Harrison — who sought him out at the start of the series — ends up killing his father after his true identity as the Bay Harbor Butcher was revealed.
Based on the premise of “Dexter: New Blood,” the new series could potentially reveal that Dexter never actually died at the hands of his son and he’s once again existing somewhere out there in the world or perhaps this time around Michael C. Hall will play a “ghost” version of the character coaching his son Harrison, much like his father Harry did for him throughout the original “Dexter” series.
Only time will tell about the plot but we know that Hall is returning to play Dexter again with his voice added to “Dexter: Original Sin” and then his own series with “Dexter: Resurrection.”
The prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” also stars Christian Slater as Dexter’s father Harry as well as Sarah Michelle Gellar with the show set to debut on Showtime in December. In “Dexter: Original Sin,” a teenage Dexter is trying to control his murderous urges when his father Harry attempts to create a “code” where he can still satisfy his insatiable need for blood but instead of killing innocents, he only goes over those who deserve to die.
