“The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” remake has added another heavy hitter to the cast as Mary Elizabeth Winstead joins Maika Monroe in one of the lead roles for the upcoming film.

Winstead — best known for her roles in films such as “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” and “Birds of Prey” as well as TV series like “Ahsoka” and “Fargo” — has joined the cast in the role played by Annabella Sciorra in the original film. The remake is being directed by Michelle Garza Cervera with a script from Micah Bloomberg.

The original film released in 1992 was centered around a woman (played by Rebecca DeMornay) whose doctor husband commits suicide after he’s exposed as a sex offender and she seeks vengeance on one of the women responsible for turning him into authorities. Monroe takes on the role originally played by DeMornay while Winstead plays the woman she targets for revenge.

“The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” was a massive success earning over $140 million at the box office on just a $11.9 million budget.

Now more than 30 years later, the remake hopes to rekindle the interest in that story with Monroe and Winstead taking on the lead roles in the new film. With the two lead roles now in place, expect more casting news on this movie in the near future.
