Bryan Bertino had a lot of inspiration to draw upon when writing the film that would eventually become his directorial debut.
He grew up as a massive fan of “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” but he also lived in an isolated house in the Lone Star state when he and his sister were left home alone and a person knocked on their door late that night.
His sister answered the door and nothing else happened but the next day they learned that those people were going door to door, knocking and anyone who didn’t answer, they broke in.
As a young man, Bertino’s father also bought him a copy of “Helter Skelter,” the book profiling the Manson family, including the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders, and that was all he needed to plant a seed that eventually grew into an idea for his film.
When a young couple leave a wedding and return to a family house in the middle of nowhere, they are soon disturbed when a late night knock at the door leads to a terrifying home invasion led by three masked intruders…
