In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to climb out of the sarcophagus and unwrap those bandages as we review the 2026 reboot “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” …
Lee Cronin exploded on the horror scene in in 2023 with the release of his film “Evil Dead Rise.” His ability to recreate and reinvent a franchise that had been around for over 40 years was hailed as a true achievement in creativity and fright.
But rather than return to that universe for another film, Cronin instead decided to challenge himself in a totally different way with his next movie as he took a stab at one of the classic Universal monsters that had been around even longer than “Evil Dead.”
This time with James Wan producing, Cronin took a stab at “The Mummy” — a title and character that’s been made, remade and rebooted seemingly endless times with varied degrees of success.
Cronin wanted his version to be practical and totally different from any other version of that same type of character and he wanted his monster to be unique.
In Cronin’s story, a journalist and his family are working overseas in Egypt when his young daughter suddenly goes missing. The entire family is mired in tragedy until eight years later when they receive a call that their daughter has been found and she’s still alive but who returns home is anything but the child that they remember ….
