Jennifer Love Hewitt is set to reprise her role as Julie James for the upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot due out in 2025…

Julie James is back.

On Friday, Jennifer Love Hewitt officially announced her plans to return for the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot, which is currently in production with the sequel set to release on July 18, 2025.

Hewitt has been in talks to return to the horror franchise for some time and she recently teased that she “so close” to inking a deal. Now that deal is done with Hewitt breaking the news on social media.

“It’s never too late to go back,” Hewitt wrote on Instagram. “Julie James is returning. I know what you will be doing next summer.”

Hewitt first portrayed the character in 1997’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which featured a script from “Scream” creator Kevin Williamson and paired her with fellow up and coming stars Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe.

The success of the first film led to an immediate sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” which was released one year later. While there were other sequels and a short lived TV series, Hewitt only appeared in the first two films in the franchise.

Now she’s coming back and she’ll be joined by Prinze, who was previously confirmed to return to his role as Ray Bronson for the sequel.

The “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot is serving as a direct but updated sequel to the original two films with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson directing from a script by Robinson and Sam Lansky. Hewitt is joined in the cast by Madelyn Cline, Billy Campbell, Chase Sui Wonders, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols and Gabbriette.

The original film centered around four friends who return home one year after tragically killing a man during a late night drive home from a graduation celebration and they soon face ominous consequences from a hook-wielding killer seeking vengeance for what they did the previous summer.

Plot details around the new movie have not been revealed yet but now we know both Hewitt and Prinze are reprising their roles from the original “I Know What You Did Last Summer” in the upcoming reboot.
