M. Night Shyamalan and author Nicholas Sparks are teaming up for a new supernatural romantic thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal…
M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks might be one of the most random pairings in recent history but the famed writer and director is teaming up with the author for a new supernatural romantic thriller that is set to release as both a book and a film.
Jake Gyllenhaal is set to lead the film version of the story with Sparks developing the book after he wrote numerous popular novels including “The Notebook.” Both Shyamalan and Sparks are developing their own versions but adapting it in different ways for the film and the book based on the same original romantic story.
It’s a unique take but that’s nothing new for Shyamalan, who has been shocking audiences for decades after his film “The Sixth Sense” became a massive hit before earning several Academy Award nominations. In recent years, Shyamalan has crossed over to television with the Apple TV series “Servant” as well as films such as “Knock at the Cabin,” which was an adaptation of the book “A Cabin at the End of the World,” and his most recent film “Trap” that starred Josh Hartnett as a serial killer trapped inside a pop concert with his young daughter.
As for Gyllenhaal, he’s been busier than ever with the release of the “Road House” remake, which ended up as a smash hit for Amazon with a sequel already in development. He also earned rave reviews for his performance in the TV series “Presumed Innocent” that earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Meanwhile, Sparks, he’s a best selling author with numerous books that have been adapted into films including “The Notebook” as well as “Message in a Bottle” and “Nights in Rodanthe.” All of his novels have been on the New York Times best seller list at one time or another.
There’s no word yet when production on this mystery film could start but Shyamalan and Sparks are reportedly already working on the script and book with Gyllenhaal now attached to start in the movie version.
