Welcome back to your worst nightmare.
A new TV series based on the horror franchise “Hostel” is currently in development with recent Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti signed on to star in the show with original creator Eli Roth returning to produce.
As of now, the “Hostel” TV series doesn’t have a network or streaming service attached but the show is being developed as a “modern adaptation” and and an “elevated thriller” based upon the original film from 2005 and subsequent sequels in the series.
Roth, Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss, who all worked on the original “Hostel” are returning for the TV series version with Fifth Season — the studio behind the hit Apple TV series “Severance” — producing the show. Roth and Briggs will pen the script for the new series with Roth also attached to direct the show.
The premise for the original film followed three backpackers, who head off to a city in Slovakia that promises to meet their hedonistic expectations but they have no idea of the hell that awaits them.
Giamatti is expected to serve as the lead role in the “Hostel” series but there’s no word yet on what type of character he’ll be playing as plot details remain under wraps. Funny enough, Giamatti actually teased that he talked with Roth about making a brief appearance in the original “Hostel” back in 2005 but the timing just didn’t line up for him to take on the role.
“Eli was shooting Hostel in Prague and I was shooting The Illusionist and I met him,” Giamatti told EW in 2013. “We talked about me actually killing somebody in that movie but it never panned out.”
Now it looks like Giamatti and Roth will finally get the chance to team up with this new “Hostel” series in development. Stay tuned for more information on this series as it becomes available!
