Another back from the dead star is returning for “Scream 7” as David Arquette is set to reprise his role as Deputy Dewey Riley in the upcoming sequel…
Deputy Dewey is back.
David Arquette — who famously died at the hands of Amber Freeman aka new Oscar winner Mikey Madison in “Scream 5” — is the latest back from the dead addition to the cast of “Scream 7.”
After first debuting in the original “Scream” in 1996, Arquette appeared as Deputy Dewey Riley is all of the subsequent sequels leading up to “Scream 5” where he was the legacy character killed off during the reinvention of the franchise. Obviously, Arquette didn’t appear in “Scream 6”
But now Arquette is back, although how he’s returning is obviously being kept under wraps, as he joins fellow cast members Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, who also died in previous installments of the horror franchise but somehow they’re also returning.
The “Scream 7” cast also includes the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott after she sat out “Scream 6” over a salary dispute with the studio. In addition to Campbell, the new “Scream” movie also features Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy-Brown and Mason Gooding reprising their roles from previous films while new additions include Isabel May playing Sidney’s daughter, as well as Anna Camp, Mark Consuelos, Ethan Embry, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, and Sam Rechner all joining the film as first timers.
Of course, Arquette’s Dewey was married to Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers in “Scream 4” but then divorced by “Scream 5.” Sadly, Dewey never got a final scene with Gale before he was offered during the fifth sequel but perhaps that all changes in the latest installment.
How might that happen? That’s the mystery just about everybody is curious to solve with production on “Scream 7” already underway with the film set for release in theaters on February 27, 2026.
