Alison Brie plans to step behind the camera to direct her first feature film in the near future after co-writing a horror-comedy script…
Alison Brie has crossed a lot of genres during her career — from comedy to drama to action and just about everything in between — but fresh off rave reviews for her new film “Together,” it looks like she’s sticking around horror when she makes her directorial debut.
After directing an episode of her Netflix series “GLOW” and working alongside her husband Dave Franco on a pair of past projects where he served as director, now Brie is ready to make the move herself.
She revealed recently that she worked on a script with Alice Stanley Jr. described as a horror-comedy that is expected to serve as her feature film directorial debut.
“While we were writing it, I felt like I was writing it to direct it,” Brie told Marie Claire. “I could see every shot in my head.”
While the film dips its toe into both horror and comedy, Brie said the project is truly a movie with “female-forward, very fun energy” and she’s excited to step behind the camera.
As far as sticking around the horror genre after “Together” and the criminally underrated slasher/thriller film “The Rental,” which Franco directed, she just says that’s the movie she wanted to make. In fact, Brie says that’s really the driving force behind all the decisions in her career now — and she’s proven that with her next role as a major player in the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” movie where she plays Evil-Lyn.
“The way I choose roles and things like that, it’s very seldom about the industry’s perception or even the arc of my career,” Brie said. “The older I get, the more I realize that the heart of everything is just trusting yourself. I’m running at the things that excite me.”
There’s no word yet on when Brie might actually get to direct that feature film, especially with her IMDB page seemingly filling up with more and more acting roles. For now, she’ll continue to celebrate the success and critical acclaim for “Together” and eventually prepare for her first directing project when time allows.
