“Yellowjackets” is coming to an end with the popular series renewed for a fourth and final season on Showtime …
“Yellowjackets” is officially returning for a fourth and final season on Showtime.
The award nominated series set in two different timelines with one in the past after a girl’s soccer team ends up being forced to survive in the wilderness for months following a plane crash and the second in a modern age as those who managed to make it back home again deal with the trauma and fallout from that entire ordeal.
On Friday, “Yellowjackets” creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson took to social media to announced that the show was returning but it would be the final episodes in the series.
“After three incredible seasons, and great consideration, we’re excited to announce that we will be bringing the story of ‘Yellowjackets’ to its twisted conclusion in this fourth and final season,” Lyle and Nickerson wrote in a shared statement. “We’ve always known there would come a point when the story would tell us it wants to end, and it’s our belief that our job — our responsibility — is to listen.
“Telling this emotional, wild, and deeply human story has been a profoundly meaningful experience and a true honor for us, and we’re so very grateful to the brilliant cast, crew and writers who have bravely gone on the journey with us to bring it to life. Most of all, we want to thank the fans who have stuck with us through every moment, mystery and meal — the Hive is nothing without you! We can’t wait to share the final chapter with you and hope you find it…delicious.”
“Yellowjackets” was immediately a smash hit for Showtime after the series premiered with the first season earning a number of Emmy nominations. The show helped launch the careers of actors like Sophie Thatcher and Ella Purnell while others like Melanie Lynskey and Christina Ricci enjoyed new found success after joining the show.
Now the journey is coming to an end with “Yellowjackets” finishing up with these final episodes that will undoubtedly reveal how the survivors of the plane crash eventually got home again and hopefully explain all the weird things happening to those survivors in the modern day story.
There’s no word yet when “Yellowjackets” will return but it seems likely production on the fourth season likely begins sometime in 2026.
