“The Mummy” will rise from the grave again with “Evil Dead Rise” director Lee Cronin set to unravel this latest creation in 2026…
Following a smash hit with “Evil Dead Rise,” Lee Cronin is now tackling another iconic horror series with a reboot of “The Mummy” coming from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster.
Cronin is set to write and direct an entirely new take on “The Mummy” mythology with the film already set for release on April 17, 2026.
“This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before,” Cronin said about the project. “I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening,”
There have been many versions of “The Mummy” over the years since Boris Karloff famously played the character in the 1932 classic. Perhaps the most beloved remake came in 1999 from director Stephen Sommers starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz with a modern take on the classic tale of “The Mummy” with the film earning more than $417 million at the box office.
The latest attempt to resurrect “The Mummy” came in 2017 with Tom Cruise starring but the film was a critical disaster, although the movie did earn more than $400 million at the box office.
This time around Cronin looks to inject even more horror into his version of “The Mummy” after his “Evil Dead Rise” film ended up earning more than $150 million at the worldwide box office on a budget around $17 million.
“The Mummy” is being produced by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse with James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville serving as producers.
