The long wait for “The Last of Us” season 2 is almost over.

The critically acclaimed series based on the video game of the same name is set to return to HBO on Sunday night, April 13 at 9:00 p.m. ET. The second season of “The Last of Us” goes for seven total episodes after the first season had nine episodes.

There’s a massive time jump for the new season as we pick up with Joel and Ellie after the events that wrapped up “The Last of Us” season 1. Here’s the synopsis for the new season:

“Five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

“The Last of Us” stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie with the rest of the cast including Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Previously announced new cast includes Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O’Hara also guest stars.

In addition to the debut date for the new season of “The Last of Us,” HBO also released a series of character posters that you can see below.

With the debut date now set, expect an even longer trailer for “The Last of Us’ season 2 to drop sooner than later.
