“The Conjuring” may be ending on the big screen but the franchise is moving forward as a TV series at HBO Max after finding a showrunner and lead writers…

“The Conjuring” may be coming to a close on the big screen with the release of the latest film “The Conjuring: Last Rites” but the long running franchise is now being adapted into a TV series at HBO Max.

While talks about developing a “Conjuring” series date back as far as 2023, there’s been no real update until now with a showrunner and lead writers hired for the planned show. Details about the series haven’t been revealed but rumors are pointing towards “The Conjuring” adaptation continuing the stories told in the films with the show taking place in the same universe as the films.

Nancy Won — who has previously worked on series such as “Jessica Jones,” “Supernatural” and “Jericho” — is set to serve as the showrunner for the series. Meanwhile, Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires have been hired as writers to work on the series after both have extensive history on shows such as “Agatha All Along” and “WandaVision” for Marvel as well as the upcoming season 2 of “The Boys” spinoff “Gen-V.”

Now Won along with Cameron and Squires are expected to begin building towards a series set in “The Conjuring” universe after the film series produced nine movies, which earned more than $2.3 billion at the box office.

The most recent film “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” which served as the final film in the series starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as real life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, scored the biggest global opening in horror film history after a whopping $194 million earned in its first weekend at the box office.

The new series set in “The Conjuring” universe could potentially follow a younger Ed and Lorraine Warren during some of their earlier cases after the latest film showcased a version of the couple set in the 1960s. There’s also the possibility that the Warrens’ daughter Judy and her real life husband Tony could also potentially take center stage in a series adaptation.

Whatever the case, “The Conjuring” is staying alive and well with the series moving forward at HBO Max.
