Production has officially kicked off for “The Conjuring: The Last Rites,” which is set to serve as the final installment in “The Conjuring” series, which started back in 2013 with a film directed by James Wan.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are returning one last time to portray real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren after appearing in numerous films but most notably “The Conjuring,” “The Conjuring 2” and “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.”
It was previously announced that “The Conjuring: The Last Rites” would be the final film in the series, although more spinoffs may still take place in the future like “The Nun II,” which was released in 2023.
Wan, who launched the franchise and serves as an executive producer on the upcoming film,’ showed off a visit to the set as production got underway.
“Always good to see and hang out with old friends,” Wan wrote on Instagram. “Gonna miss everyone. End of an era.”
Michael Chaves is returning to direct the fourth film in the series after he also directed “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do it” and “The Nun II” with a script from David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing. Additional cast members include Ben Hardy, Mia Tomlinson and Taissa Farmiga (Vera’s younger sister) also has a credit listed for the film after playing Sister Irene in both installments of “The Nun” series.
There are no details about the plot just yet but “The Conjuring: Last Rites” does have a release date set for September 5, 2025.
