Recent “Speak No Evil” remake director James Watkins has been chosen to direct the new “Clayface” movie with a script from horror master Mike Flanagan….
James Gunn is pulling out all the horror heavyweights for the upcoming “Clayface” movie.
Following news that Mike Flanagan — aka “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Midnight Mass” and “Doctor Sleep” — was writing the script, now we get the news that James Watkins is going to direct the film.
Watkins is fresh off directing the recent “Speak No Evil” remake starring James McAvoy after previously directing horror films such as “The Woman in Black” and “Eden Lake.”
Of course, Gunn got his start in horror, which included writing the script for the “Dawn of the Dead” remake directed by Zack Snyder before moving onto direct his own feature films such as the cult classic “Slither.”
Now Gunn is teaming Watkins up with Flanagan for the new “Clayface” movie, which centers around a classic Batman villain that’s had many different versions over the years.
The one making it to the big screen this time around is touted as a Hollywood horror tale about a B-level actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay.
The budget for the movie is around $40 million.
Gunn reportedly wants to branch out with the new DC Universe to showcase massive, tentpole films like his upcoming “Superman” movie due out later this year with smaller, more character focused stories such as the “Clayface” movie now being developed by Watkins and Flanagan.
The new “Clayface” movie is expected to begin filming later this year, although there’s been no word on casting just yet with the film slated for release on September 11, 2026.
Stay tuned for more news on the “Clayface” movie as it becomes available.
