Isabel May — who was a breakout star in the “Yellowstone” prequel miniseries “1883” — is now set to join “Scream VII” in a key role in the upcoming sequel.
May is set to play Sidney Prescott’s daughter in the sequel, which puts the focus back on Neve Campbell’s character after she sat out “Scream VI” over a salary dispute with the studio.
Plans for “Scream VII” were nearly derailed after Spyglass — the studio in charge of the film — fired Melissa Barrera over posts she made regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict. Soon after, Jenna Ortega revealed that she wouldn’t be returning for the sequel due to scheduling conflicts with her role in the Netflix series “Wednesday.”
That eventually led to director Christopher Landon (“Happy Death Day”) also dropping off the project but it wasn’t long before new plans emerged with Campbell reprising her iconic role as the final girl from the “Scream” series with original screenwriter Kevin Williamson returning to direct the new sequel with a script from Guy Busick, who also penned “Scream V” and “Scream VI.”
Not much else is known about “Scream VII” outside of Campbell taking over in the lead role again as Sidney Prescott with talks ongoing to potentially bring back Patrick Dempsey to play her husband Mark Kincaid after that character first appeared in “Scream III” and then got a brief mention in “Scream V.”
There’s also no word yet if Courteney Cox is reprising her role as Gale Weathers after she revealed as recently as September that she hadn’t reached a deal to return for the latest sequel. As of now, Cox is the only actor to appear in all six “Scream” installments.”
Production on the film isn’t expected to get started until 2025 with “Scream VII” already set for release on February 27, 2026.
