“The Batman” star Robert Pattinson and “Smile” director Parker Finn are teaming up to remake the 1981 horror-thriller “Possession”….
Robert Pattinson is teaming up with “Smile” filmmaker Parker Finn to remake the 1981 psychological horror thriller “Possession,” which was originally written by Andrzej Żuławski and starring Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani.
According to reports, a number of studios are bidding to land the film including A24, Netflix, Paramount, Sony and Warner Bros.
The original “Possession” centers around a woman who starts exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior after asking her husband for a divorce. Suspicions of infidelity soon give way to something much more sinister happening between husband and wife.
Finn is set to write, produce and direct the script under his Bad Feeling label with Pattinson also producing and taking on the leading role originally played by Neill, who eventually went onto find success starring in franchise films like “Jurassic Park.”
Żuławski wrote the film while he was dealing with his own divorce as his marriage to an actress was crumbling down around him. “Possession” was never a commercial hit and wasn’t particularly well received by critics but the movie continued to resonate with audiences, eventually gaining a cult classic status among fans.
The horror streaming service Shudder also revived “Possession” in recent years, which introduced the film to a whole new audience.
Finn is currently finishing up production on “Smile 2” after the first film became a breakout hit earning more than $216 million at the box office. As for Pattinson, he hasn’t appeared in any films since “The Batman” in 2022, although he does have a starring role in the next film from Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho when “Mickey 17” lands in theaters in early 2025.
