Director Dan Trachtenberg earned rave reviews for his film “Prey” released in 2022, which was a new take on the classic “Predator” franchise with the story taking place in the 1700’s a young Native American fights for her very survival against the deadliest hunter in the entire universe.
While that was a straight to streaming release on Hulu, the critical and commercial success of that film led to Trachtenberg pitching more ideas set in the same universe including an animated film called “Predator: Killer of Killers” and another live action movie that would actually feature one of the Predator species acting as the protagonist rather than the villain.
At the time, Trachtenberg didn’t know if either idea would get the go ahead but ultimately 20th Century Studios actually signed off on both so he was now tasked with delivering.
The animated film was another smash hit and the other project centered around a young, ambitious Yautja named Dek seeking the approval of his species by traveling to the most dangerous planet in the known universe on an unsanctioned hunt in hopes of snaring a mythical beast that will finally prove he belongs among the Predators …
