Charli XCX is set to portray a woman possessed by a tortured spirit in Takashi Miike’s newest horror film with production set to begin soon …

Charli XCX is already one of the most in-demand performers in music and now she’s adding a whole lot of acting credits to her resume including a starring role in the upcoming untitled horror film from Japanese legend Takashi Miike.

As previously announced, the “Brat” singer is set to star in the film with production expected to begin in Japan in March.

Joining her in the cast are “Supergirl” star Milly Alcock, who also appeared in the first season of the HBO series “House of the Dragon” and “The Walking Dead” universe star Norman Reedus. Actress, model and singer Kiko Mizuhara is also in the cast along with Show Kasamatsu.

In the film, three best friends meet up in Kyoto to rekindle their lifelong friendships. What is intended to be a carefree girls trip devolves into a nightmare, unfolding when Katie (Charli XCX) becomes possessed by a violent, tortured spirit (Mizuhara) in the Japanese horror tradition.

Ross Evans and Yumiko Aoyagi wrote the script after Charli XCX and Miike came up with the original story for the film.

Of course, Miike is a legend of horror cinema after directing classics such as “Audition,” “Ichi the Killer” and “13 Assassins” and he’s earned a reputation as an unflinching filmmaker with a tendency to show graphic violence and themes exploring horror, samurai and and the Yakuza.

In addition to her massive music career, Charli XCX just recently produced and starred in her own mockumentary titled “The Moment,” which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. She’s also got a starring role in the new film “I Want Your Sex,” which stars Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman. She’s also making an appearance in the upcoming “Faces of Death” reboot, starring alongside Barbie Ferreira and Charli XCX wrote the album for the soundtrack for the new film “Wuthering Heights,” which lands in theaters on February 13.

Production is expected to start soon in Japan but there’s no word when the movie might land in theaters for an official release.
