“Cruel Summer” and “Totally Killer” star Olivia Holt and “Scream” favorite Mason Gooding are starring in a new horror rom-com from the director behind “Werewolves Within”…
Olivia Holt — best known for her performances in “Totally Killer” and the Freeform series “Cruel Summer” — along with Mason Gooding — from the “Scream” franchise — are set to star in a new horror rom-com called “Heart Eyes” with filming already underway in New Zealand.
The film is being produced by Spyglass, the same studio behind the recent “Scream” sequels as well as Eli Roth’s slasher film “Thanksgiving.”
Here’s the plot synopsis for the new film:
“When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle, a pair of co-workers pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. Now they must spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives.”
Josh Ruben — who has directed an outstanding pair of horror-comedies in the past with “Scare Me” and the criminally underrated “Werewolves Within” — is set to direct the project with a script from Christopher Landon (“Happy Death Day,” “Freaky”) as well as Phillip Murphy (“The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”) and Michael Kennedy (“Freaky”).
“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies,” Ruben told Deadline. “I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.”
There’s no word yet on when the film might be released but with production already underway, it probably won’t be too long before “Heart Eyes” lands in theaters and/or streaming.
