A pair of high profile horror films are set for 2027 release dates with Mike Flanagan’s “Exorcist” and the newest “Conjuring” movie…

Mike Flanagan has a lot on his plate these days and that means one of his highest profile projects is getting a later release date than originally expected.

The writer and director plans to reboot “The Exorcist” with a whole new film that doesn’t have ties to the original classic from 1973 or the recent legacy sequel “The Exorcist: Believer” from 2023. But the film starring Scarlett Johansson in the lead role is now set for release on March 12, 2027.

Originally, Flanagan’s “The Exorcist” was scheduled to drop one year earlier on March 13, 2026 but the studio removed that date this past summer and now has the movie set for release in 2027 instead.

“’The Exorcist’ is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honor to have the chance to try something fresh, bold, and terrifying within its universe,” Flanagan said about making the film when he first signed onto the project. “Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I’ve made some of my favorite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting.”

Meanwhile, there’s another new film set in “The Conjuring” universe that’s also now set for a 2027 release date.

“The Conjuring: First Communion” is set to drop in theaters on September 10, 2027 with Rodrigue Huart directing from a screenplay written by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, who worked on both “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do it” and “The Conjuring: Last Rites.”

Very little is known about the new “Conjuring” movie, although it’s not expected to feature Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in the lead roles as famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The current expectation is that “The Conjuring: First Communion” could potentially be a prequel featuring younger actors in the roles or perhaps a new kind of sequel focused on Ed and Lorraine’s daughter Judy and her husband Tony, who took up the family business and both appeared in “The Conjuring: Last Rites.”

For now, we know when both “The Exorcist” and “The Conjuring: First Communion” are scheduled for release in 2027.
