The critically acclaimed indie horror film “Marshmallow” is getting a sequel with the original writer, director and cast all expected to return.
On the surface, “Marshmallow” starts out like so many summer camp slasher stories with a young boy named Morgan being dropped off by his mother with hopes that he’ll break out of his shell and make some new friends but after arriving, he first hears a campfire story about a slasher named “The Doctor” but he soon discovers not all tall tales are actually fiction.
“Marshmallow” was ranked as one of our top 10 horror films of 2025 and now a sequel is on the way.
Director Daniel DelPurgatorio, writer Andy Greskoviak, and cast members Kue Lawrence, Kai Cech, Dylan Friedman, and Max Malas are all confirmed to return for the sequel to the film.
The sequel is set to take place a few years after the events of the first film and follows the lingering damage left behind – not just to the world, but to those who survived it. The story descends into far darker territory, expanding the mythology while erasing any remaining sense of safety as the consequences finally come due.
“Marshmallow opened the door to a world that still has a lot of dark corners left to explore,” Todd Friedman, co-founder at Hemlock Circle Productions said in a statement. “We’ve always believed there was more story to tell, and the response from audiences has only reinforced that.”
There’s no word yet when production on the “Marshmallow” sequel will begin or when the film might get a release date but the film is happening after the original ended up one of the best reviewed horror movies of 2025.
