The “M3GAN” universe is expanding.
On Thursday, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster announced plans for a spinoff film titled “SOULM8TE” that will branch out the concept of artificial intelligence, living dolls except this time around it’s an adult version. The film is already set for a January 2, 2026 release date.
Described as “an erotic thriller,” “SOULM8TE” follows a man who acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate. The film aims to pay homage to domestic thrillers from the 1990s but with a modern, technological twist.
Kate Dolan, who was behind the 2021 thriller “You Are Not My Mother,” will direct the film and she’s also reworking the script, which was originally written by Rafael Jordan.
The story comes from Atomic Monster founder James Wan, Jordan and Ingrid Bisu.
“SOULM8TE is a thrilling and seductive addition to the M3GAN universe,” Wan said in a press release. “We’re excited to partner with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view.”
“M3GAN” was a surprise hit when it was first released in 2023 with the film earning more than $181 million at the box office on a tiny $12 million budget.
The success of the film led to Blumhouse and Atomic Monster almost immediately ordering a sequel with the next “M3GAN” film due out on June 27, 2025 with Allison Williams and Violet McGraw both returning from the first film.
Now another film in the “M3GAN” universe is coming with “SOULM8TE.”
