Jessica Chastain is set to star in a new horror film directed by Rob Savage with James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures on board to produce.
The film is based on a book “Incidents Around the House” from Josh Malerman — who many know for writing “Bird Box,” which was adapted in a smash hit movie for Netflix.
The book has been a critical and commercial success for Malerman and now Savage, who previously directed films like “Host” and “The Boogeyman,” is adapting this film with Chastain attached to star.
“Incidents Around the House” tells a story from the perspective of an 8-year-old girl whose family is being tormented by an entity that she calls “Other Mommy.” In the book, Bela loves her family and they are her entire world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?”
When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the same question, over and over . . . Bela understands that unless she says yes, soon her family must pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is on the brink of unraveling. But Other Mommy needs an answer.
The book has received high praise since being released, especially for the unique perspective at the heart of the story being told from a child’s point of view. Obviously there’s no telling exactly how the film version is going to be adapted but Chastain is set to star in the film.
Chastain, who captured an Oscar for her work in the film “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” she’s also appeared in several prominent horror films including the 2013 movie “Mama” and then appearing as the adult Beverly Marsh in Andy Muschietti’s “IT: Chapter Two.”
