A pair of popular scream queens are teaming up for a new Shudder original slasher film “River” that will receive a theatrical release …

Jane Levy — best known for her role in Fede Alvarez’s “Evil Dead” reboot — and Jessica Rothe — who came to fame in “Happy Death Day” — are teaming up together to lead a new slasher film from Shudder with the movie receiving a theatrical release.
“River” stars Levy and Rothe alongside Dane DiLiegro (“Prey”) and Max Mattern (“Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy”) in a film headed up by first time feature film director Joshua Giuliano.
In “River,” three estranged siblings reunite in their hometown after the death of their father, and they set out to scatter his ashes at his favorite spot on a remote river. But when their boat breaks down, the trip devolves into a waking nightmare.
Stranded miles from help with no cell service, they soon realize they’re being stalked by a faceless killer who has emerged from the woods. To survive the night, the siblings must put their long-standing grudges aside and fight together against a ruthless, almost mythic terror.
The movie will hit theaters courtesy of Independent Film Company with filming already in post-production.
“’River’ was six years in the making, a labor of love that culminated in the most rewarding experience of my life,” Giuliano said in a press release. “Working with Shudder has been a thrilling collaboration and knowing ‘River’ will have a theatrical release is a dream come true. I look forward to sharing our terrifying creation with audiences.”
There’s no date yet on the release of “River” but it’s expected that the film lands in theaters sometime in 2026.
