In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to stop driving around dangerous curves at high speed and call Julie James for help as we review the 2025 sequel “I Know What You Did Last Summer”

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson was fresh off directing her second feature film with “Do Revenge” for Netflix and the movie was incredibly well reviewed and well received, which is when she got a call from Sony asking if she might be interested in rebooting “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

The classic slasher from the 90’s was a fan favorite but following one theatrical sequel and then a very forgettable straight to video bomb, the franchise effectively died.

But when slasher films all the rage again and horror films tearing it up at the box office, Sony decided to take another stab and Robinson told the studio she was ready to take on the project before they could even finish the sentence offering her the job.

She teamed up with Sam Lansky to write a script with the heart of it all centered around the concept of beautiful people behaving badly.

Robinson ultimately created a legacy sequel that builds on the mythology from the original film and she even welcomed back two of the survivors from that movie with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. both signing onto return.

Much like the original, the new film follows a group of friends who get into a deadly car accident and decide to cover it up rather than face the music for their mistake. But one year later, they discover that secrets don’t always stay hidden and some mistakes can cost you your life…
