A supernatural series from “Stranger Things” creator Matt and Ross Duffer has lined up an all-star cast led by Academy Award winner Geena Davis and Alfred Molina.
The series is called “The Boroughs” with the Duffer brothers serving as executive producers under their label of Upside Down Pictures with Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews as the creators behind the show, who are also acting as showrunners for the new series.
Of course Davis is well known for her work in films like “Thelma and Louise,” and genre favorites such as “The Fly” and “Beetlejuice.” As for Molina, he’s starred in everything from “Boogie Nights” to “Frida” and a critically acclaimed role in “Spider-Man 2” as well.
Here’s the premise for “The Boroughs”
“In a seemingly picturesque retirement community, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have — time.”
In addition to Davis and Molina, the cast also includes Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters and Bill Pullman.
This series serves as the latest project in an overall deal the Duffer brothers struck with Netflix after creating the hit series “Stranger Things,” which is currently just over halfway through production on its final season. A global phenomenon and one of the most watched series in Netflix history, “Stranger Things” put the Duffer brothers on the map and now they’re expanding their empire with shows like “The Boroughs.”
“We’ve been fans of Jeff and Will’s writing for a long time, and when they pitched us their idea for The Boroughs, we immediately knew they had something very special on their hands,” the Duffer brothers said when the series was first announced.
“While the heroes in The Boroughs have a few more years on them than the kids from Stranger Things, they are a similarly lovable bunch of misfits, and we can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that is at turns scary, funny, and deeply touching.”
Netflix ordered an eight episode first season for “The Boroughs” with more cast members expected to be added as production prepares to get underway.
