Alligators will hunt again in “Crawl 2” with a sequel to the surprising horror hit set to go into production later this year…
Quentin Tarantino’s favorite film from 2019 is getting a sequel.
“Crawl 2” — a direct sequel to the original “Crawl” that got rave reviews from the Oscar winning writer and acclaimed director — is set to go into production later this year with original director Alexandre Aja returning to lead this film as well.
The original “Crawl” was set in Florida in the middle of a Category 5 hurricane with a father and daughter played by Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper get trapped in their home as they attempt to fend off a ravenous alligator — and eventually multiple alligators — hunting them down in the flooded suburbs. The original film was written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen with the movie earning over $91 million at the box office on budget under $14 million.
The sequel is written by Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan, who also wrote the horror sequel “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” with Aja returning to direct.
The sequel won’t have any ties to the original with a new cast and new characters being introduced under a similar premise, although rumors are the story takes place in a more urban setting in New York City.
The film is expected to get into production later this year in Europe.
