Kane Parsons literally grew up on the internet.

From a young age, the future filmmaker was enamored with making videos for YouTube and he started with his own animations based on the “Attack on Titan” but he soon discovered a 4Chan thread talking about the concept of “backrooms,” which depicted creepy basements bathed in yellow that seemingly went on forever with no end in sight.

Enamored with that idea, Parson started making his own “Backrooms” series on YouTube, which began with a nine-minute short released in 2022 that played like found footage with an amateur filmmaker crossing over into a new dimension of sorts with empty rooms, hallways and passageways that were never ending.

After racking hundreds of millions of views on his channel, Parsons was contacted about adapting his short films into a feature film — and this was all happening while he was a senior in high school looking at colleges for the next step in his education.

Instead when indie darling A24 made him an offer her couldn’t refuse, Parsons put college on hold and turned his full attention towards making a feature film where a furniture store owner discovers a strange doorway in the basement and he’s soon transported to an alternate world filled with a never ending labyrinth of yellow rooms ….
